Scrap Metal Recycling
Reading Time: 2 minutes

We all have heard these three famous words, reduce, reuse and recycle. These three ‘R’s are the most powerful ways to save the planet today. Recycled products are in a bigger demand today than it was a few decades ago. They come in high quality and also last longer. The prices are equally competitive with the regular products. Every recycled product will carry the unique green symbol. Recycling is something that we can practice every day in our homes as well. If you read more articles about recycling, you will see a huge list of items that can be recycled.

Start small in your own home

Make it a conscious effort to identify items to recycle. The only way perhaps to develop this sense is to think twice before you open the trash can to dispose. Always ask yourself if it can be recycled. Even food can be recycled as compost for plants, for example. You need not throw it away.

Newspapers can be used to wipe crockery and glass tops for example. You can also use them to clean the windshield of your car. Reusing things in our homes can help to cut down our shopping bills.

Common products that are recycled

Recycle doesn’t only mean reusing, but also donating it or giving it to someone who can use them.  What you consider as waste may actually find valuable use with someone else. For example, you can discard your old appliances at the local scrap dealer. The metal obtained from the appliances will be used for various purposes.

Some of the most common household products are old cycles, children’s toys, old books, waste paper, plastic items, soda cans and bottles.  Each one of us discards at least one of these items everyday. By putting in a small effort to collect such items and disposing it at a recycling unit you contribute to the environment.

Recycle along with your community

Involve your neighbors and friends in recycling. You can set up a drop box on the street and ask people to dispose recyclable items in it. You will be surprised at the number of items the box collects every day. You will need to put separate containers for metals, paper, and old clothes and so on. If you are planning to sell some items like metals and plastic, you need to tie up with a scrap dealer. You can tell them that you will be supplying recyclable items every day. Paper recycling fetches you money and it is recycled to make new paper.

By setting up small scale recycling units, you are actually doing a great favor for your community. Along with community service, it becomes a hobby that fetches you money. Some people are so involved with recycling that they collect old magazines and paper and make interesting home decorative stuff. If you a creative person, you can do plenty with recyclable items. Also, people like to buy handmade stuff for their homes instead of expensive items. Old newspaper and liquor bottles can be used creatively to make plant holders and even baskets.
