The police and Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Enforcement Department conducted a joint operation against

illegalscrap yard operators recently.The operation involved Bukit Lanchong in Putra Heights, deemed a hotspot as many scrap metal dealers are located here.

Four police officers from the Putra Heights station and 49 MPSJ officers from the Enforcement Department raided four premises.The team was led by MPSJ Enforce-ment Department assistant director Mazrul Zahar Mohd.They confiscated weighing scales, combustible items such as gas cylinders as well as others items.

One of the four premises doubled up as a residence, complete with a kitchen and bedroom, amid the junk.

Licences for scrap yard businesses are only issued when operators comply with the regulations.These include maintaining the scrap yard to minimise the danger of aedes mosquitoes breeding and ensuring that it is situated in an industrial zone.

The four illegal operators were among 255 scrap yards given a compound this year, said MPSJ Enforce-ment director Major (Rtd) Mohd Rasip Rasul.The maximum fine for operating without a licence is RM1,000, with the council having the authority to compound and seal the premises under MPSJ’s 2007 by-laws for Business Trade and Industrial Licensing.
