Recycling is not a modern concept. We as humans always have a tendency to recycle knowingly or unknowingly.
For example, instead of discarding a toothbrush, we use it to clean bottles instead of buying a bottle brush. We use plastic bottles to store water instead of discarding them. Recycling is a process of reusing the materials, which will otherwise be discarded or thrown away. The industry of recycling collects materials that are thrown away and converts them into reusable products. Recycling is safe for the environment.
Benefits
Recycled products reduce redundancy. It decreases the waste material that clogs landfills and reduces the usage of incinerators. The environment can be saved by using recycled products and preserved for future generations.
Recycled products help to conserve the natural resources, like wood, minerals and water.
Recycled products save the environment from pollution and also reduce the dependency on raw materials. Furthermore, if you recycle products and materials, it saves energy that is invested in making new products.
Recycling prevents global warming and reduces emission of greenhouse gases in several ways.
Recycling industry also creates several jobs and contributes towards the economy.
Steps to recycle
Recycling involves just three steps. They usually are as follows.
The first step involves collecting and processing the materials. Most of us discard several things, like paper products, plastic bottles, polythene covers, soda cans, aluminum products, wood and several more. The trash that we throw is collected by a recycling unit. After collecting huge mounds of trash, the waste items are sorted out by category. The items collected are graded based on their quality. Some are high quality items and some are low. Based on the quality and type, materials get sorted out into different segments.
The items that have been sorted out are sent to the appropriate processing unit. For example, paper is sent to paper recycling unit where it is processed and made into reusable paper. Aluminum cans are crushed and sent to scrap units for reprocessing. Similarly different items can be put into different types of uses. The processed material comes out in a much lesser quantity compared to the original amount of material supplied.
The next step in recycling is manufacturing. The processed material is sent to manufacturing units. The material is further processed and cleaned by these units so that they are prepared to make newer products. There are barely any materials that cannot be reused. These processed materials find various uses in the market. Depending on their value of usage, they are dispatched to the appropriate manufacturing house. The processed material is converted into reusable products in these manufacturing houses.
The third step in the process is marketing the recycled products. The recycled products are sold by various vendors across the world. Different kinds of products are made for recycled products, like bags, shoes, paper, and household items. All the products that are manufactured using recycled products will carry the popular green symbol of recycling. You can immediately recognize that it is made out of recycled products. These items also come with a green print.
By opting to recycle, you are reducing your carbon footprint. If the earth has to be preserved and its resources protected, you should seriously consider recycling. Even your kitchen waste can be recycled to form compost that you can use for mulching and fertilizing your garden and vegetable patch. So go for it!
