Recycling is a concept that allows us to use the discarded material again. Instead of discarding them they are again used to make other products or the same ones as well. Paper is an excellent example of recycled material. Old paper is turned into new and sold again in the market. Recycling is not limited to paper and professionally recycled material. People recycle several things even at home. Like old tee shirts are converted into swab cloths and plastic bottles are used as plant holders. Anything that is being reused comes under the umbrella of a recycled product.

What is Recycling?

Recycling becomes very important when it is done on a large scale. Large scale Recycling collects consumer goods that have been discarded and are remade into consumer products again. It can be anything, like office paper, aluminum cans, steel, plastic and many more. These objects are collected and used for large scale Recycling. Recycled products do not come in the same quality as the original one. For example, recycled office paper may contain strains of ink that it carried and seldom looks like the original white paper.

Limitations of Recycling

Recycled products have several limitations. Sometimes they are less desirable because they do not come in the original quality. An office may discard tonnes of paper every year but they are most hesitant to use the recycled paper because of its quality. Recycled products that come as weaker products compared to the original ones are called downsized products.

Some products, when recycled, become better in quality or retain their original quality. For example, products that are made out of waste like soda cans and old furniture. They are just given some finishing touches and they are good to go. These are called up-cycled products.

Recycling is an expensive affair. Because of this often times recycled products sell at a higher price than the original product. Market research shows that only a few hardcore environmentalists use recycled products.

The market for recycled products is very low. They are not easily available and also not accessible in all parts of the world. Recycling is a time-consuming process. As a result, the production of recycled products takes longer than producing the original version. For businesses, which need constant supply of materials, Recycling industry may not be able to meet up this demand.  Due to all these factors Recycling products are not that popular.

Benefits of Recycling

Despite of the limitations of recycled products there are several benefits of Recycling. Recycling reduces redundancy and is environment friendly. Several natural resources can be saved from depletion by Recycling. For example, using recycled paper saves nearly 700 trees per year. Recycled steel, copper and other metals save energy and reduce mining efforts.

The biggest benefit of Recycling is environmental advantages. As humans are increasing on the planet more resources of the planet are being used. Several natural resources are close to depletion. Though Recycling is not a fix for this problem, it at least delays the process of depletion and tries to create a more sustainable environment.
