Steel is the New Gold: Recycled Steel

Steel is the New Gold: Recycled Steel

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The new form of precious metal in the 21st century is steel. Countries, like India, China and Malaysia, are developing rapidly and so is the demand for metals like steel. There is a tremendous increase in demand for recycled steel in the recent times and this has propelled the need for equipment like scrap crusher machines. Scraps of steel are crushed and then rated as a different quality of metal.

There are several good qualities of recycled steel and some of them are:

  • The metal has a uniform and smooth shape
  • It has a high density and does not come with many attachments
  • It is pure in its form and is also highly durable
  • The production capacity is higher and contains lesser polluting chemicals like sulphur and phosphorous
  • Melted steel is stable and consumes lower amounts of energy during the manufacture process.
  • The production time is less and the process is faster
  • It is environment friendly and safe

Process of manufacturing recycled steel

Steel crushing process begins by separating the metals. The crushing machine first breaks it into small particles and these particles are segregated based on their quality. A unique combination of high quality and low quality scrap is used to create an ideal and a durable steel product. The manufacturing process takes only 20% of the time as it takes to make newer steel sheets. Shards of recycled material can be produced in a single day. Since the raw material is already available in the form of scrap, the necessity for new material is driven down largely.

Steel can be recycled locally and the process does not require high volume investment. However, there is a huge demand for it in the infrastructure industry. The infrastructure companies are also responsible for the supply of largest amount of scrap steel. Recycled steel is obtained from them and supplied back to them as a finished product.

Benefits of recycling steel

There are many benefits of recycling steel to the mankind and the environment as well.

  • Steel scrap is maintained in the loop and it is not sent to landfill sites
  • The natural resources of earth are protected by avoiding mining.
  • It helps to reduce CO2 emissions caused by the manufacturing process
  • 1.5 tonnes of iron ore can be saved every day in mining
  • 40% of the water required for production can be saved
  • Energy consumption in steel plants can be reduced to 25%

Conclusion

Steel is collected by various methods, including scrap dealers, curb point collection and canning centers that are located throughout the country. The Malaysian government also is encouraging infrastructure companies to dispose metals like steel in the right way. There are many aided recycling companies that collect important metals and route them to recycling units. Steel is actually graded in several layers and every type of steel can be used to make a product that is useful for us. Whether it is high quality or low quality, recycled steel is reused and diverted into the consumer market.
